Bengal potato traders announce indefinite strike from Sunday, prices to rise more!

Amidst soaring potato prices and government pressure to curb them, the Progressive Potato Businessmen's Committee has declared an indefinite strike across West Bengal starting Sunday. The decision was announced following a meeting with the cold storage owners' association at a private hotel in Bankura.

The strike announcement has triggered concerns over potential disruptions in potato supply across the state, exacerbating worries among consumers already grappling with escalating vegetable prices.

The committee officials cited relentless government pressure to lower potato prices as a primary reason for their drastic action. Allegations have surfaced that measures such as halting potato exports to other states and intercepting potato-laden trucks at state borders are exacerbating the situation.

Lalu Mukherjee, the state secretary of the Progressive Potato Businessmen's Committee, emphasized that while opting for strike action, they remain open to dialogue with the state government. He expressed concerns that continued interference could lead to financial losses for traders and impact patronage.
